Symbol of Access. In the UK, 93% of people with a disability don’t use a wheelchair.

 

Being denied access to car parking, priority seating and restrooms, because they don’t look like they have a disability. Is it time to change the International Symbol of Access? Making it inclusive of all disabilities, visible or invisible. 

Focusing on the different forms of mobility, combining both walking and wheelchair users to create a more inclusive Symbol of Access.

Overall there are 12 Disability Access Symbols, such as Access to Low Vision and Access for Hearing Loss. Applying the design system for the proposed Symbol of Access creates consistency throughout the series of symbols.
